Wealth Group Data

Wealth Groups are a group of households within a Livelihood Zone with similar capacity to exploit the available food and income options.

Typically, rural Livelihood Zones have 4 Wealth Groups: Very poor, Poor, Medium, and Better off.

Note that although most Wealth Groups are based on income and assets, i.e. wealth, that is not always the case. For example female-headed households, internally-displaced persons, or refugees may be a surveyed Wealth Group.

Wealth Groups are implicit in the BSS 'WB' worksheet in Column B and the 'Data' worksheet in Row 3.

Wealth Groups include the following fields:

  • Livelihood Zone Baseline: The Baseline associated with the Wealth Group.

  • Community: The Community associated with the Wealth Group.

  • Wealth Group Category: The Wealth Group Category of the Wealth Group, e.g. Poor or Better Off.

  • Average Household Size: The average household size within the Wealth Group.

  • Percentage of Households: Percentage of households in the Community or Livelihood Zone that are in this Wealth Group.
